How to travel Greece in 2021?

19 April 2021 Greece open for tourists who are vaccinated or test negative from 32 countries

From 19 April 2021 Passengers from the 27-member EU, as well as the US, Britain, Serbia, Israel and the United Arab Emirates, will be able enter Greece without being forced to go into isolation on arrival .

To enter Greece you must have proof with you that you:

  • have been vaccinated against COVID-19
  • or have received a negative PCR test result performed maximum 72 hours prior to their arrival and the results should be in English (including the full name and passport number).

Travellers from other countries arriving in Greece obliged to a 7-day mandatory precautionary restriction (self-isolation).

In the event of a positive result, they will be contacted and placed on 14-day quarantine, with expenses covered by the Greek state.

If you travel after 14 May 2021

Greece will officially open for all travellers on 14 May 2021 . To enter Greece you must have proof with you that you:

  • have been vaccinated against COVID-19
  • or have received a negative test result
  • or have recovered from COVID-19.

*As part of pilot programme permanent residents of Israel (all nationalities) can fly to Greece from 29 March 2021 if they have vaccination certificate.

The Vaccination Certificate must state, in English the following:

  • name and surname of the traveler,
  •  the type of the vaccine and
  •  the number of vaccination doses administered

Europe Union Digital Green Certificate *pending approval from European Commission since 17 March 2021

On 17 March 2021, the European Commission presented a proposal to create a Digital Green Certificate to facilitate the safe free movement of citizens within the EU during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

  • The Digital Green Certificate contains necessary key information such as name, date of birth, date of issuance, relevant information about vaccine/ test/recovery and a unique identifier.

  • Will citizens who are not yet vaccinated be able to travel to another EU country?

Yes. The Digital Green Certificate should facilitate free movement inside the EU. It will not be a pre-condition to free movement, which is a fundamental right in the EU. 

  • How will citizens get the certificate?

National authorities are in charge of issuing the certificate. It could, for example, be issued by hospitals, test centres, health authorities.
